has issued a voluntary recall of cold smoked salmon products potentially containing Listeria monocytogenes placed on the market in the USA produced from lots 249 through 291, manufactured between September 5 2012 and October 17, 2012.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is based on Listeria detection in a few of the recalled batches. No other products supplied by Delifish or Marine Harvest USA are involved in this case.

The US FDA has a zero tolerance for Listeria in products intended to be eaten without prior heat treatment. In EU the tolerance limit for such products is maximum 100 bacteria / gram.

Gills Onions Expands Voluntary Recall of Diced and Slivered Red and Yellow Onions, and Diced Onion and Celery Mix Because of Possible Health Risk

• Gills Onions, LLC of Oxnard, CA is expanding its July 18 voluntary recall to include additional products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes; a list is provided at the end of this release. • Sartori Inspirations, LLC, is initiating a voluntary recall of a small number of Ciolo branded items made exclusively for Whole Foods Market. The items may contain onions from Gills Onions, which may be contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

• prepared foods that contain chopped/diced white onions as an ingredient because the onions have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

• Whole Foods Market in the state of Florida only has initiated a voluntary recall of certain fresh food items sold in prepared foods departments, as well as one item sold in seafood departments of their 17 Florida stores. The items are being recalled as they could have been made using raw yellow onions processed by Gills Onions, LLC, which initiated a recall on their product due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
