Salmonella – What it is

Salmonella – How to Prevent it

What No MSG Really Means …

MSG noThis one will blow your mind.

To get an idea of all the wording that actually means MSG (mono sodium glutamate) is actually in the product Look at the Chart Below.

Labels that tout “no MSG” or fail to list it are often not telling the whole story.

Once again –  Here’s the nut-twister.  Current labeling laws do not require manufacturers to list the contents of ingredients.  So … MSG, may be concealed in dozens of commonly used additives—

1. Malted Barley (flavor) 2. Flavors, Flavoring 3. Modified food starch
4. Barley malt 5. Reaction Flavors 6. Rice syrup or brown rice syrup
7. Malt Extract or Flavoring 8.Natural Chicken, Beef, or Pork, Flavoring “Seasonings” (Most assume this means salt, pepper, or spices and herbs, which sometimes it is.) 9. Lipolyzed butter fat
10. Maltodextrin 11. Soy Sauce or Extract 12. “Low” or “No Fat” items
13. Caramel Flavoring (coloring) 14. Soy Protein 15. Corn syrup and corn syrup solids (some companies use another process to make their product, saying it is MSG free)
16. Stock 17. Soy Protein Isolate or Concentrate 18. Citric Acid (when processed from corn)
19. Broth 20. Cornstarch 21. Milk Powder
22. Bouillon 23. Flowing Agents 24. Dry Milk Solids
25. Carrageenan 26. Wheat, rice, or oat protein 27. Protein Fortified Milk
28. Whey Protein or Whey 29. Anything enriched or vitamin enriched 30. Annatto
31. Whey Protein Isolate or Concentrate 32. Protein fortified “anything” 33. Spice
34. Pectin 35. Enzyme modified “anything” 36. Gums
37. Protease 38. Ultra-pasteurized “anything” 39. Dough Conditioners
40. Protease enzymes 41. Fermented “anything” 42. Yeast Nutrients

What MSG Really Does … More Cravings

  • Fact,headache

Scientist’s feed MSG to laboratory animals to make them obese.

Why? When you ingest MSG, what little blood sugar was around, gets turned into stored energy by the insulin release.

  • In other words, your blood sugar drops, and your body craves more, but is storing it at the same time. Result:
  1. You overeat
  2. You store calories – and gain weight
  3. You are still hungry
  4. You get hypoglycemic symptoms –
    1. Irritability,
    2. Headache

It becomes a cycle, especially if you eat more food containing MSG (which is found just about everywhere).  And here are symptoms from eating MSG:

MSG Symptom Complex

A condition characterized by one or more of the following symptoms:

  1. Burning sensation in the back of the neck, forearms and chest
  2. Numbness in the back of the neck, radiating to the arms and
  3. Back tingling,
  4. Warmth and
  5. Weakness in the face, temples, upper back, neck and arms
  6. Facial pressure or tightness chest pain
  7. Headache
  8. Nausea
  9. Rapid heartbeat
  10. Bronchospasm (difficulty breathing) in MSG-intolerant people with
  11. Asthma drowsiness weakness.

Body’s Reaction to MSG

Reactions to MSG (recorded by consumer groups as well as the FDA) includewoman in gastric pain

  1. Nausea,
  2. Vomiting,
  3. Diarrhea,
  4. Dizziness, Seizures,
  5. Arrhythmia,
  6. Asthma and
  7. Depression.

Tomorrow … Hidden Names for MSG.
